ZULU COMBAT SPEAR ASSEGAI

Original Zulu spear assegai 39 inches long with a leather cow tail binding. The blade is 4.75 inches long. The wooden shaft has been shortened and rounded at the end. It was likely modified by a Zulu warrior after possible damage during combat. This item came from a private Zulu war collection and was brought back as a trophy. The condition and aging characteristics of this spear together with the binding reinforce the link to the period prior to 1879.
